چکیده

The Dynamic Host Connguration Protocol (DHCP) was designed to allow the frequent allocation of resources and connguration information useful to Internet hosts at boot time, including Internet addresses in particular. It turns out that getting a new Internet address is crucial to the problem of enabling the movement of Internet hosts from one network to another, and thus DHCP is quite relevant to the problem of providing seamless, transparent mobility to Internet hosts. We decided to investigate the ways that DHCP could be of assistance in this regard. Since the DHCP protocol was not itself designed for the purpose of providing host mobility, a number of problems arise. Our experience with deploying DHCP, and our proposed mechanisms for the use of DHCP with mobile computers, are the subjects of this paper.

Location Independent Names for Nomadic Computers

Recent advances in the Domain Name System (DNS) and the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) have enabled a new approach to supporting mobile users: location independent naming. In this approach, machines use the same hostname from any internet location, but use an IP address that corresponds to their current location. We describe a protocol that implements location independent naming for...

An efficient solution to a retrial queue for the performability evaluation of DHCP

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is designed to provide an automatic mechanism for the allocation, configuration and management of IP addresses and TCP/IP protocol stack parameters of computers and devices in IP networks. The important feature of DHCP is a “dynamic allocation” mechanism, which assigns an IP address to a client for a limited period of time (called a lease time). Theref...

DHCPAuth - A DHCP message authentication module

DHCP is one of the most used network protocols, despite the security issues it has. Our work is motivated by the numerous attacks that can be launched against DHCP and the impact that they can have. Firstly, we formulate the constraints and design principles for a DHCP message authentication module that is flexible and easy to integrate with current DHCP implementations, while providing the nec...
